DIY Networks - Windows 7 Dial-Up Configuration

Configuring your dial-up Connection in Windows 7

Set up a New Connection or Network To create a new connection make your way into the Network and Sharing Centre as described in the tutorial Manage Your Windows 7 Network Connections . In the Network and Sharing Centre you will see a section titled Change your network settings and the first option in this section is Set up a new connection or network. Click on Set up a new connection or network.
Choose a Connection Option. Clicking on Set up a new connection or network will start a wizard running that will allow you to configure your dial-up connection. You will be first prompted to choose a network option, select connect to the internet and click next.
How do you want to connect. The wizard will then ask you How do you want to connect? Click on Dial-up, Connect using a dial-up modem or ISDN and the wizard will then progress to the next screen.
Type the information from your ISP. You will then be asked to type the information from your internet service provider. The details should be typed in exactly as your ISP provided them to you. In the first field type your ISP's dial-up number. In the second field type your username, which with many ISP's is also your email address. Type your password into the password field and your ISP's name into the Connection name field. If you put a tick into save password it will allow you to connect to the internet without typing your password in every time. Finally, putting a tick in to Allow other people to use this connection allows other users of the computer to connect to the internet using these details. Once you are satisfied you have filled the information in correctly click the connect button on the bottom of the screen.
Testing your Dial-up Connection. The computer will now attempt to connect to the internet using the details you have provided. If the information you have provided is correct the computer will dial, authenticate and then connect to the internet. If the connection attempt is successful the computer will then create the dial-up connection and remember the information you provided. For most people creating a dial-up connection ends here. Happy surfing the web!
Setup the connection anyway. In our example we have disconnected the phone line from the computer and the connection attempt has failed with an error 680, which means the computer was unable to detect a dial tone. Should you be unsuccessful in connecting to the internet when creating your dial-up connection you will have the option of trying again or setting up the connection anyway. If your attempt to connect to the internet fails for any reason take heed of the error message created, for example our no dial tone message because we weren't plugged into the phone line, the error message will tell you what went wrong. You may elect to try again or set up the connection anyway.
Connection Setup Succesfully. Your connection should be set up successfully and you should now be able to surf the web.
